| 0:00.0 | Welcome to the Dr. Berg's Healthy Keto and Interminute Fasting podcast, where Dr. Berg takes you on the journey for the truth about getting healthy and losing healthy weights. |
| 0:24.6 | Today we're going to talk about the most common cause of a liver transplant. And this thing I'm going to talk about is the number one cause of a liver transplant in the |
| 0:28.6 | U.S. and the second most common cause of a liver transplant in the world. |
| 0:34.6 | And that would be acedaminophen, commonly known as Tylenol. Now, if you're in Europe, |
| 0:40.8 | it may be called paracetamol. Now, here's the problem. The active ingredient in Tylen, which is acetaminophon, |
| 0:48.5 | is in quite a few over-the-counter medications. It's in Alka-Seltzer Plus, Benadryl, Excedrin, it's in Pachoset, |
| 0:57.3 | ributusin, suet, theriflu, vix, Nyquil, dequel, and in Vicodin. And many of these |
| 1:05.6 | medications come in one-gram tablets. But here's the problem. Only four grams a day is an overdose. You should |
| 1:14.0 | never take more than three grams in a 24-hour period because the toxicity from this chemical |
| 1:20.0 | literally destroys the liver cells and this destruction is irreversible. Now to make things worse, |
| 1:26.6 | if you have a fatty liver, if you |
| 1:28.6 | have cirrhosis, if you have hepatitis, if you're an alcoholic, if you're a heavy smoker, |
| 1:34.7 | and if you are on antidepressant medication or antibiotics, or you drink a lot of aspartame because |
| 1:42.0 | you drink a lot of diet sodas, all of this weakens the liver |
| 1:45.4 | to the point where 3 grams in a 24-hour period is highly toxic, if not deadly. So here's what |
| 1:53.1 | happens. The liver makes two enzymes that are supposed to dismantle this chemical and turn it into a harmless byproduct. |
| 2:04.3 | But what happens when you overload these two enzymes too much with this chemical, it gets saturated. |
| 2:11.7 | And then a third enzyme comes in to try to cope with this, and then you start depleting |
| 2:15.8 | your glutathione, which is a very important |
| 2:18.3 | protective antioxidant for the liver then you start getting necrosis of the hepatocyte or the |
| 2:24.6 | liver cells now the term necrosis is the death of body tissue so your liver cells hepatocytes |
| 2:31.0 | basically die now i want to give you a little reality on how easy it is |
