In last week's episode, I introduced you to a man named Dayton Leroy Rogers, who was

known by local sex workers as a creepy regular they called Steve the Gambler, a man who had

a foot fetish, enjoyed bondage and inflicting pain on women.

Rogers was arrested for the murder of Jennifer Lisa Smith over the summer of 1987.

Shortly after his arrest while they prepared for his upcoming murder trial, authorities made

the gruesome discovery of several mutilated bodies hidden in the Moala Forest.

The similarities between the Moala Forest killings and Jennifer Smith's murder were undeniable,

and soon detectives would unveil a prolific serial killer who would go on to have the

longest running court case in Oregon history.

On Monday, August 31, 1987, a few weeks after Jenny's murder and Rogers was arrested, a

46-year-old hunter by the name of Everett Lee Banyard took his crossbow out to the

Moala Forest in the hopes of making a kill.

He got a late start that evening just after 7pm, but there was a little light left and

he figured he could take his chances.

He'll did he know he wouldn't make a kill, but he would discover someone else's.

As Banyard quietly made his way through the brush, he scoured the area looking for evidence

of woodland creatures and the small disturbances on the ground.

Now and then, his nose was hit with a strong stench.
