Summary

In this episode, we discuss the Bystander Effect which looks at why people don’t intervene when someone is in trouble. This social psychological theory came to prominence following the brutal 1964 murder of Kitty Genovese in NYC. People watched the assault but did not try to help her. We look at two recent examples of similar actions by bystanders, why this seems to be happening more often, and what Christians can do to counteract it. Let’s get into it… Episode notes and links HERE Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

This is Undaunted Life, a man's podcast. I'm your host, Kyle Thompson. Let's get into it.

Thus says the Lord, do justice and righteousness and deliver from the hand of the oppressor him who has

0:29.6

been robbed and do no wrong or violence to the resident alien, the fatherless and the widow,

0:34.8

nor shed innocent blood in this place. That's Jeremiah 223. Guys, thanks so much for listening

0:40.3

into the podcast today. I really do appreciate it. Before we get into today's content, I just want

0:44.1

to remind you guys that we do have a YouTube channel. So for those of you listening to this, I know most

0:48.2

of you have listened to this podcast since 2017, but we did launch a YouTube channel earlier this year.

0:52.9

So if you go into the show notes, you can find that and subscribe and thank you to the couple

0:56.2

of thousand subscribers that we have up to this point. But let's go ahead and get into the rest

1:00.1

of the content for today. So I want to read a quote from one of my favorite movies and that movie

1:04.5

is Boondock Saints. Okay. So this is a movie that's probably not appropriate and not probably. It's

1:09.1

definitely not appropriate for all ages. It's a movie that I saw back in college, but it's a very

1:13.6

interesting movie about these two brothers that are basically trying to even the score with all

1:17.1

these bad dudes on the street. Now there's some fairly sacrilegious things that happen in that.

1:21.5

They're using scripture, you know, out of context to basically allow them to go and kill these

1:26.0

people, these bad men that are doing crimes in their area and all that. But at the very beginning

1:31.1

of the movie, there's a scene where these two brothers are in this church or in this Catholic church

1:35.8

and, you know, the, you know, whatever the priest he's up there doing this thing and he's talking

1:39.6

about this story that a lot of you have heard about or maybe the first time you heard about it was

1:44.8

because of this movie, but there's, there's music. It's kind of this build up and it's the first

1:48.8

time we get to see these brothers. So I'm going to go ahead and read the quote and this is from

1:51.7

the priest in the movie. And I'm reminded on this holy day of the sad story of Kitty Genovies.
