I want to share with you this morning about the ministry of Jesus.

This is the, I'm going to begin a new series by the way next week called happiness redefined.

And we're going to go through the beatitudes which the word

blessed actually means happy in the Greek and so Jesus tells us how to be happy and

it's really the definition of happiness but I'm calling it the redefinition because we need to be redefined because

we've lived in the world for so long as to what happiness really is.

So we'll begin a new series next weekend, and that was really the Sermon on mount the greatest sermon ever preached and no one can argue with that because Jesus preached it so you can't say there's a better one.

But this is his first sermon in his hometown.

So he goes back to where he was brought up and this is what he preaches.

All right?

Luke 4 beginning of verse 16.

So he came to Nazareth, where he'd been brought up.

And as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, he attended church regularly, and stood up to read.

And he was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah.

When he opened the book, he found the place where it was written.

Now this is what he said, this is what he read that day. The spirit of the

Lord is upon me because he has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor, he has sent me to heal the broken

hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to set it liberty those who are pressed or in the Greek

you'd be better translated bruised to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.

And that's all we're going to read, but he sits down after that and then he makes this statement.

Today, this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing. And the sermon went over really well because it says that they let him out of the synagogue to a high heel and tried to push him off of it.

So it didn't go that well, his first sermon in his home church.
