Summary

Lonestar Data is putting data centers for storage on the moon. Chris Stott joins the Mining Pod to discuss why nation states love the concept. Click Here To Join the BitAxe Giveaway Welcome back to The Mining Pod! Today, Christopher Stott, the CEO and founder of Lonestar Data Holdings, joins us to talk about putting computer storage in space! Chris explains how Lonestar managed to place a data storage device on the moon (with more to come), why nation states want lunar data backups, why space’s natural cooling and solar power provide optimal conditions for these mini data centers, and why backing up humanity's data off-planet isn't sci-fi but reality. **Notes:** • 8TB storage in 1kg device tested on moon• Next launch: 1 petabyte to low-Earth orbit• 15 petabyte system planned for Lagrange point• Launch costs dropped to <$10K per kilogram• 300 petabytes already pre-reserved by clients• Insurance costs 60% of space mission lifecycle Timestamps: 00:00 Start 04:50 What is Lonestar Data? 07:00 Sovereign data? 10:51 Cooling data centers in space 12:59 Lifespan of solar cells in space 16:32 Data on the moon 20:15 Latency adds security 23:18 UX for clients 25:59 Cost 35:42 Lonsetar's Interstellar Mission 👉CleanSpark, America's Bitcoin Miner! I mean, if you take a quick example of what's happening today, we've got a hurricane in Hawaii.

0:03.5

That normally triggers one of the largest single migrations of data in human history from Hawaii back to the mainland. You've had the Red Sea cables cut this week. This is all happening this week. And so that means Microsoft and Zoon and all the others have gone dark in most of East Africa and most of the Middle East. So the cable fibers were cut. You have the ongoing conflict in Thailand and Cambodia, which by all accounts was triggered by a cyber attack. And that's just it. Data was so valuable. It's so fragile, though, at the same time. Right. Because our infrastructure is built to meet demand. No one ever said, hey, we're going to have this incredible infrastructure. How do we best design it for security? It's built there upon there upon there. As Larry Niven, great sci-fi author, a patron of the Institute of Space Commerce,

I really want to make sure that we don't become extinct by not backing up our data out of the

space where it's cool, it's free, energy, it's logical,

and it's safe.

Data centers in space?

It's not sci-fi, it's reality.

Today on the mining pod, brought to you by CleanSpark, we have Christopher Stott of Lone Star Data Holdings,

1:08.3

a company that is putting computer storage on the moon and in orbit.

1:13.7

Now, I know this sounds highfalutin, convoluted, and maybe fake, but I assure you this is

1:19.2

actually being used by governments around the world, and Lone Star currently has a pilot

on the moon, and they are going to launch a petabyte in the near future.

I recorded this episode with Chris Live at Yada 2025 in Las Vegas, and it was one of the most

1:33.5

interesting conversations I've had on the mining pod to date, so I hope you all enjoy.

1:37.0

Guys, there is a serious problem right now in Bitcoin mining, and we need to talk about it.

1:41.4

You need to pay attention to this.

1:43.1

Bitcoin miners are identifying as AI companies,

1:46.5

and people keep mis-sectoring them

1:48.2

because they say, well, look,

your infrastructure is clearly for Bitcoin mining.

What do you want me to do about it?
