Summary

With the ubiquity of plastic products, it’s maybe no surprise that a growing body of research shows tiny pieces of plastic are getting inside of us.  But what is all this plastic doing to our bodies? And once it’s there… is there any way to get it out?  Producer Haleema Shah looks at what the research says (and doesn’t say) about plastic and health, and explores a new trend in wellness: the microplastics cleanse.  Featuring Charmaine Dahlenburg, Marcus Garcia, Yael Cohen, and Sarah Morath. Produced by Haleema Shah. For full credits and transcript, visit outsideinradio.org. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Like, we've got plastic cutting boards that we're, like, trying to not use as much.

0:42.1

And same with, like, Teflon, we're trying to stay away from that.

0:44.8

Yeah, that's a big one.

0:46.2

And, you know, your wife and my husband are reasonable people for being concerned about this,

0:51.0

because studies do show that tiny pieces of these plastics that we use

0:56.2

all the time are getting inside our bodies. And we can't see them, but you can kind of assume

1:02.5

that they're there. Yeah, absolutely. Like it's something that like, I should probably be thinking about

more. Well, if you want to raise your anxiety more, you can get a home testing kit to literally

1:14.0

test how much plastic is in your blood. Oh, man. I don't know if I want to do that. Well, I did.

1:20.0

Did you really? I did. I did. I got a $360 mail-in blood testing kit from Blueprint, which is a company that's founded by Silicon Valley's own
