Summary

Thank you for bearing with us. We weren't able to bring you an episode last week for personal reasons, but we will try and make it up to you today - starting with a BIG apology to Lizzo for saying it wasn't possible to jam on a flute. It bloody well is. Mea culpa.

Today we discuss the micro-trends of lockdown (are you a lockdown cliche?) and a Dolls Polls about what we're all apparently buying. You will never guess the top billing (no - it's not loo roll. Or pasta.) Also today, a new podcast from Louis Theroux, a discussion of the adaptation of Normal People, the wonder that is Quiz and lots more reading, audio reccs and daft stories.

Welcome to the Highloat a weekly current affairs and pop culture podcast brought to you by

0:19.4

Dolly Alderton and Pandora Sykes. Sorry we missed last week, we always endeavour not to miss

0:27.6

an episode unless we're on a seasonal break or maternity leave. But we're really dedicated at the

0:33.8

moment to trying to bring you the most uplifting, positive, diverting, often quite silly,

0:39.8

podcast that we can and due to some very sad news that I had last week I was not in a position

0:46.5

to do that. But we are very much endeavouring to do that for you today and here to make that happen

0:55.7

is Dolly Alderton with a hangover on her seventh cup of tea. Listen my darling girl I've got a nugget of pure

1:05.2

unadulterated joy for you from the archives. It's re-emerged on Twitter, it is a vintage, it's a 2010

1:12.6

vintage, slipped right down, it's a lovely full-bodied news story. Here we go. Gordon Brown is

1:21.1

reportedly weaning himself off his four kit-cats a day habit and is now eating nine bananas to get fit for the

1:29.3

election. Mr Brown's wife Sarah is said to be responsible for the new dietary fad having persuaded

1:35.4

the 58 year old to ditch his favourite kit-cats. The PM is reported to have ordered staff to leave a

1:40.6

giant bowl of bananas in his study and he eats them during meetings. Mr Brown's spokesperson said

1:46.6

the Prime Minister has always taken the view that a balanced diet is very important.

1:50.6

Sean Porter from the British Dietetic Association urged Mr Brown to curb his intake and to replace them

1:57.4

with other fruits for a more balanced diet. She said there is a lot of fiber in bananas. A lot of volume

2:04.6

in means a lot of volume out. Two things immediately spring to mind her which is that I truly can't imagine

2:13.9

what one must feel like after nine bananas. It's a filling fruit. Yeah. And the other thing is that

2:20.7

anyone tuning into that podcast and not listening to the first 60 seconds will really have thought

2:27.6

that we've lost the plot as a contemporary news podcast reporting on the Prime Minister. Gordon Brown

2:36.6

would be like such a me thing to do to just forget that Gordon Brown is no longer our Prime Minister.

2:42.8

I miss Gordy and miss him. From Gordon Brown to Lizzo, a massive apology for saying that
