It's the year 2000 and I'm sitting at home watching the Sidney Olympics on the old school

TVs with the booty on the back.

And the stadium is packed.

The crowd has come to see this young black female star from America light up the world

I was excited to see her myself.

She stands in waves at the crowd as her name is called by the announcer.

Her name, Mary and Joan.

She shakes out her legs a little before bringing her focus to what's ahead of it.

Mary and places her feet in the blocks.

Her eyes locked firmly 200 meters away on the finish line.

Tom watching and I find it difficult to tell who's in the lead in the first 100 meters.

But coming out of the curve, the rest of the sprinters quickly start to fade behind Mary.

Do you know those tour guides that stand in front of a group of people?

That's exactly what she looked like.

Mary and Jones is now the fastest woman on the planet.

Double gold medalist in both the 100 meters and 200 meters.

She's achieved her dreams.

But within a few short months, Mary and's world was on the brink of collapse.
