It's 2016 and the fashion team at Refinery29 is getting ready for New York Fashion Week.

So here's a little known factor about me.

I used to do lighting design and installation that shows during Fashion Week.

It's really an invite only scene.

There are events, parties and shows.

You hear the clickety-clack of heels and you see people who clearly put a lot of effort

into their outfit because you're there to be seen and see who you can see.

But if you don't have a ticket or know someone, you ain't getting in.

Fashion Week is incredibly exclusive for absolutely no reason.

It is because the fashion industry is built upon this idea of exclusivity.

That's Connie Wayne, the executive editor at Refinery29.

And because of that, not everyone gets to see and witness the fancy clothes that's put on

by the fancy people who make these fancy clothes.

Most people don't even understand how to get a ticket to Fashion Week.

Usually editors like Connie have to email PR companies that work for the designers to get access.

There's a very specific way to send this where people understand that you are legitimate.

One day, someone from a PR company got in touch with Connie.

They received an email from someone saying they worked at Refinery29.

Connie thought, that's weird, we already have our tickets.
