old, ordinary. The kind of village were news still travelled by word of mouth, and neighbours

rarely changed. The cottage, Meadow Cottage, needed work. It had tick stone walls, low ceilings, and a slightly warped wooden floor.

But it was charming and historic.

The kind of place people daydream about, an escape from city noise.

Ken was a teacher.

Debbie worked locally.

For a while, they were joined by a friend of theirs

named Nicola, who stayed during the early months of renovation.

As autumn deepened into winter, life of Meadow College settled into a rhythm. Ken and Debbie

were focused on repairs, scrubbing down walls, repainting woodwork, trying to bring warm

back into the old house.

It was the kind of place that always seemed to hold on to cold air, and despite being small,
