All right, troops, just wondering if the panel could use their own experiences to help me better understand my own sense of Irishness.

I am Scottish but I'm also proud of my Irish heritage.

Being brought up by my father who regularly suffered sectarianism slash racism, because it is racism.

He was denied jobs because of the school he went to and dealt abuse from the police because of his name.

When he travelled back to Ireland, his memories are of British soldiers tipping their suitcases out on the side of the road

and pointing a gun at his father when crossing the border.

I feel it's important to remember what my grandfather and father had put up with in the hope of a better life.

However, I am regularly called out by both my Scots and Irish for showing pride in my Irish heritage with Scots,

mainly of a certain person Asian, liking to remind me that I am Scottish-British,

despite the fact I would proudly describe myself as Scottish.

I believe this comes from generations of anti-Irish racism, even if it's subliminal.
