Walter Senior Editor Jesse David Fox. This is an interesting episode for a few reasons.

So the first and most immediately apparent reason

is our guests are the Lucas brothers,

aka Kenny and Keith Lucas, identical twins

who do a version of a two-man stand-up routine.

As you'll notice, their voices are incredibly similar.

That said, as we talk about, Katie and Keith don't mind if you can't tell which is talking,

as part of what they're trying to explore in their act.

The other thing that makes this episode unique is the joke that brothers picked isn't finished.

Though they believe eventually the joke will perfectly set up their next hour, they also know

it doesn't totally work yet.

They partly wanted to do the podcast as a way of thinking through the joke

a bit more, giving us a rare opportunity to capture the thought press up a joke while it's still

being worked on. If all that sounds potentially kind of heady, buckle in. This is legitimately the headiest conversation

of my entire life. Both Kenny and Keith major in philosophy and college, and the new hour they're

working on is a manifestation of a lot of things they've learned then and their own personal

study. But I should mention, they are really funny and incredibly thoughtful about their stand-up

as it relates to the history of comedy. The guys are currently touring so you can see for yourself how the joke evolved.

As I said, the joke isn't finished yet, so you're about to hear a bit of a rough version of it told at the Helium

comedy Club in Portland a few months back.
