Today we're talking about the recent investigation by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, ICIJ, surrounding the very illiterative

lewdoliques.

My guest is Shila Alecci. Shilla is an investigative

reporter and video journalist with the ICIJ. A native of Italy, she worked for a stretch in Tokyo

for Bloomberg News and others, and was part of the Japanese reporting team that took part in the

Pulitzer Prize-winning Panama Papers investigation.

Thank you so much for having me.

Perhaps you can start by describing your role in the story,

and then how things unfolded.

This seems to people on the outside who have developed very quickly.

I'm a reporter with the ICIJ in Washington, and also in this case for this

investigation, I was one of the reporters working out of Washington, D.C. What the ICIJ usually does

is not only coordinating the investigation, but also reporting ourselves and finding the best

leads, and especially from an international point of view.

From the beginning, we wanted to understand what this Angola-focused story could offer to our readers all over the world.

The news cycle has been really chaotic lately, and I think that most people in the compliance community are generally aware of the story,

but really not familiar with any of the details. Take us back through this in a fairly remedial way, if you would.
