What I want to do is give you seven glimpses of the glory of the Son that I see in this passage.

Number one, John shows the writer of the gospel that Jesus is the goal of John the Baptist

ministry. Let's just read these verses. 35 to 37. The next day, again, John was standing with his

two disciples and he looked at Jesus as he walked by and he said, behold the Lamb of God and the

two disciples heard him say this and they followed Jesus. So point number one, John's ministry

exists to get people to leave him and go to Jesus because Jesus is the Lamb. Number two, Jesus

is followed by these two and I think symbolic of the way we should. Jesus is followed by these two

because he's a sin remover. Okay. Back in verse 29, John had said, behold the Lamb of God who

takes away the sin of the world. He's a sin remover. Animals can't do it. The Lamb of God can do it.

Now notice the connection between verses 36 and 37. See if you don't see what I see. Verse 36,

John said, behold the Lamb of God and verse 37. So they heard him say this and they follow Jesus.

The reason they left John is because he doesn't take away sin. He's not the Lamb. This is just huge.

The implications are huge. In other words, following Jesus is first and foremost not heroic.
