Summary

Ok, resign yourself to it - Liz Truss is going to be our prime minister. Is she going to bomb at the outset? What do the public think of her? Will she get a honeymoon? What’s she planning?

We are joined by Opinium pollster Chris Curtis and Byline Tomes’ Adam Bienkov.

Plus - Labour’s internal election results are announced last week. Is it all over for the Labour left - or does it have a future? We are joined by newly elected NEC member Jess Barnard.

Hello, hello, hello. Welcome to the show. Liz Truss is about to become your prime minister,

0:13.5

imminently in fact. That's right. She's the prime, she's going to be the prime minister

0:17.0

of the whole country. We're not in Dallas. You're not going to wake up. It is an all a dream.

0:24.2

Liz Truss is about to become the leader of the United Kingdom. I don't quite understand

0:31.8

still how we ended up here. I think if you've been in a coma for the last three years, you'd

0:35.4

find the events that have enveloped the country rather puzzling, but we are where we are.

0:41.2

Now we've got a special show today to talk about. I mean, just to know myself, is Liz Truss

0:47.2

just going to implode quite quickly? And I say that because actually, you know,

1:12.2

leader of the Conservative Party. I mean, I get that, but there's something truly bizarre about

1:16.8

the Liz Truss phenomenon, if we call it that, which I do want to talk about. So I want to talk

1:20.6

about what the polling says now. I wonder how much the British public have really engaged with

1:24.8

the Conservative Party leadership contest. I actually think a lot of people have switched off and

1:28.5

not really engaged. It's been a very introspective, very inward looking leadership contest where

1:33.2

people are a lot of the discussion predictably, of course, gone to that current favourite past time

1:39.1

of British political and media commentary, which is baiting trans people. And going on about

1:44.1

abolishing speed limits in motorways, not really engaging with the massive social calamity,

1:48.7

which is about to develop the country as things stand. Now, nonetheless, what does the polling

1:54.8

currently say? And in terms of the positioning she's taking, because she represents a very
