Good evening, children.

It's Granny Maduff, ready with a story.

So make yourselves comfy, and I'll begin. Thank you. Once upon a time, there was a little town in the north, which never had any stars in the sky.

They had mostly winter all year round, and then days were quite short, and then quite long.

But the night sky was always a foggy grey. All the children in town had only read about the stars.

And they were never able to stay out after dark, because once the sun went down, it was

just too dark and too foggy.

Even candles couldn't help them much.

The children rarely played together after school, and it was because of this that they mostly kept to themselves.

What's theirs was theirs.

And that was that.

They never had anyone new in town, well, at least for quite some time.

But one day, a family arrived. They had one little boy, and he was as happy as could be.

The family went out for a walk one evening. Everyone in the town was surprised, for no one went for evening strolls.

Mother, why is no one outside?

I suppose it's quite dark and foggy.

In fact, said father, I don't think I've seen one star since we arrived.
