0:00.0 | TALKY'S CHERICOO BEBEAT TALKY'S CHERICOO |
0:07.0 | TALKY'S CHERICOO MAMA TALKY'S BEAT |
0:13.0 | Alright, so just came back from Rest Look Kingdom last week and it was of course the retirement of one of the greatest performers of all time. |
0:24.0 | Japanese or otherwise of course I'm talking about juicin' thunder-ligor and just kind of thinking about Liger, of course reminding me about Super Liger, which Liger and I have never discussed. |
0:37.0 | Every time I see him he doesn't really speak too much. I know he's a fan of mine. He's said some really nice things about me in the press before and I was actually supposed to have him on TALKY's Jericho. |
0:48.0 | I believe last year and he kind of bailed out at the last moment. So I never really got a chance to speak with him and his English is good enough to be on this show. |
0:57.0 | As you know I've had Shinsuke Nakamura and I've had Chado Anguato and Yoshiro Asei. I could have had a great conversation with him but he didn't, like I said, didn't want to do it I guess. |
1:08.0 | But I just reminded about Super Liger and I wanted to go through and tell the story of the life and times of Super Liger born January 4th 1997, about 12 minutes after his birth. |
1:28.0 | But just before we get into that I wanted to talk about Liger himself and just the influence that he had and so many performers of my generation, I'm sure of many generations, definitely was the first of his kind to do the shooting star press and the Palm Strike and the Proficionaire and the Brain Buster and all these moves that had never been invented before Liger did them. |
1:55.0 | Of course the mask and the character and all that sort of stuff, a Liger, a juicion Liger, of course half lion, half tiger, this is long before Napoleon Dynamite, was a cartoon character, I believe it was an anime character and Liger was able to get the rights to use it and of course the legendary status is created. |
2:15.0 | So one of the things for me when I signed with WCW was to go to New Japan but I had worked with Liger in WAR. We actually had a match together, it was Gato and myself versus Liger and Takaiwa, he actually was in one of the Liger every time it matches and we had like I said a tag team match. |
2:45.0 | And it was a big deal at the time to work with Liger, as always a big deal to work with Liger but especially for me being in WAR and kind of always having my eye on New Japan, I was kind of wanting to be a part of it. |
2:57.0 | You know we did this super Jacob the second stage together, we didn't wrestle each other but he was in that and so there was a little bit of a, I guess working agreement with War and with New Japan. |
3:10.0 | So we did get a chance to work with some of their guys from time to time and working with Liger was a big deal for me because obviously he was a legend. |
3:18.0 | And I remember the tag team match we had was really really good, I think Gato and I beat Takaiwa but to get a taste of being in there with Liger was very cool and obviously he liked what he saw because Super Liger was Liger's idea to be kind of the ultimate rival. |
3:39.0 | So how it all started was like I said when I signed with WCW one of the things I really wanted to do as a result was go to New Japan because I had never worked there before. |
3:54.0 | I had worked for FMW, I worked for countless tours for War and like I said had you know a cups of coffee with some of the guys there. |
4:03.0 | For Yuki Gung, I used to work with, there was one of their, Haseyashin Gung was the name of the group. |
4:13.0 | From New Japan there was a go to who was in there and I can't remember who the leader was, Koshinaka I think his name was. |
4:20.0 | So we did get to work with some New Japan guys like I said but I really wanted to work under the banner of New Japan. |
4:26.0 | So I started in WCW and of course when I said Bishoff said he would be more than agreeable that I started with WCW September August of 96 and I guess in about December or so early December late November I got a call from Brad Ringens and Brad was at the time kind of the American liaison for New Japan. |
4:55.0 | I think Brad is right now maybe one of the managers of Brock Lesnar is a matter of fact or Brock's confidant is handler sort of thing. |
