Very good morning to you. It's three minutes after ten, and once again it's the satirists I feel sorry for.

How on earth do we mock the current political landscape, given that the politicians have done so much to bring mockery upon themselves?

Hand on heart?

I feel sorry for many, many councillors today, of all parties,

well, no, of the two main parties,

who have, no doubt, in many cases,

dedicated their lives to local government

and who have been punished for the incompetence of their national leaderships, their national party leaderships.

I wish Brexit had never happened. I really do. I increasingly feel sympathy towards people who feel that their vote needs to somehow be respected even though, and I say this, I know it will upset people,

but even though they can't explain what they voted for, I get that a bit.

But my goodness me, if anyone had told us it was going to break everything like this,

would we have even had the referendum in the first place?

I don't think so. That's not the question for today.

And I am only half joking when I say we can use these results to...

We can use these results to vindicate whatever position we already held,

except for one thing, right?

There is a surge here for the Liberal Democrats. It's an odd surge, given that Vince

Cable, despite being a very decent man, and he is just not right for the job, clearly. He's

already announced that he's leaving. So it's a very strange scenario that you have two parties led by absolute prunes.

And then you have a third option, a historical third option, currently being led by a man

who's already handed in his notice, a sort of vacuum in waiting at the top of the Liberal
