Welcome to the special edition of All Things Catholic. I'm your host, Edward Sree, on location on pilgrimage for the Jubilee year in Rome and we are down in the excavations

getting ready to go all the way down to first century Rome the first century of Christianity,

the foundations of the church here in Rome. And we're going to go to a period of the apostles

and the first generation of leaders,

bishops, right after those apostles.

So this is pretty amazing what we're going to come in contact with here.

And this is one of the things I just love about our Catholic faith is that we have such

deep historical roots.

It wasn't just a faith that was imagined, you know, by some Christians, you know, 100 years

ago or 400 years ago.

No, no, this goes all the way back to the time of Peter and Paul.

And we can trace the connections from Peter and Paul and the leaders they chose and

their successors.

And then the, then they chose successors after them,

connected all the way to your local bishop today

and our Holy Father today.

So there's the amazing lines of succession.

And I think about this, I shared with you earlier

on this pilgrimage about how I had a professor

that had offered Mass at St. Peter's every single morning.

And sometimes I would go and join him when I studied here in Rome.
