As soon as I heard that Boris Johnson was going to get the election date on December 12th,

I thought the slogan I'd run if I were the Labour Party is wipe the smile of his face.

And what do you know?

An email just dropped in my inbox.

On behalf, I'm told of Diane Abbott, since of course, by the Labour Party, with the slogan,

wipe the smile of Boris Johnson's face.

What they're inviting you to do is to put a metaphorical custard pie right in the Prime

Ministers' Nashes.

What they need to do over the next six weeks is motivate, excite, inspire natural Labour

supporters.

And they've got to persuade the electorate that Boris Johnson might run away with a huge

majority and be free of all the constraints that he's been under since he moved into

Downing Street.

Their message in other words is, even if you don't want Jeremy Corbyn to be the next leader

of the country, just make sure that life isn't comfortable for Boris Johnson.

We want next year to be a great year for our country, Mr Speaker.

We want it to be a great year because we are going to invest more in front line NHS services.

We are going to reduce violent crime with more police officers on our streets, 20,000.

That's what I pledged on the street on the steps of Downing Street and we've done it.

We are going to invest in every one of our schools, primary and secondary across the country.

Mr Speaker, the choice at this election couldn't be clearer.
