I'm Oshvin, and I'm on the phone with Brian.

And on this week's episode, we're going to be talking about the 2023 film, The Last Voyage of the Demeter, directed by Andre

Overdall and starring Corey Hawkins, Liam Cunningham, and David Desmelshin.

In this film, a ship's crew find themselves battling a notorious vampire as they sail from

Transylvania to London. If you're new to our show, Brian and I are going to have a spoiler-free discussion at the top of the episode.

Then we'll take a quick break. You'll hear a little bit of music. Then we'll come back and talk about the plot, hit the spoilers, and get into our review.

Brian, were you pretty excited for this one to come out, or was it pretty low on your radar?

I was excited for this one. I really like the novel Dracula, and this is based on a chapter

from that 1897 novel from Bram Stoker, and the chapter was titled Captain's Log, and it

basically is just like, yeah, here's this ship and this is what happened, or basically a very vague description of something going wrong on the ship.

Sure.

And the movie is based on that.

On that chapter.

And it's just funny, because I feel like some horror fans knew that and some people who read the book

knew that. But one question I think that is on everyone's mind with this movie is why did this

thing fail so miserably at the box office? Why weren't people excited? What should it have been

titled? There's so many open questions about this. So I personally,

having read and really enjoy that book, was like, oh yeah, I'd love to just take a pocket of the book

and make a movie about that instead of, you know, readapting the whole thing, which has been done
