Hey, grief gang. Welcome back to another episode of Dying Laughing. I'm your host, Jesse May Paluso.

And today's episode is called The Language of Loss. It's about what I learned from planning my dog Carlin's last day on Earth.

And yes, I said planning. A, because I'm a Virgo. And B, because as awful as that sounds, there is this strange kind of beauty

in being able to say goodbye on purpose with intention. I'll talk about how I knew it was time,

the decision I made to do it at home instead of at a hospital, and how, believe it or not,

there are actual positives to being able to plan your pet's final moments.

And yes, I hate myself for that pun, but I had to do it for my boy, Carlin.

It's weird because when you lose someone, you start to realize that grief has its own language,

one that isn't made up of words, but of choices, the way you say goodbye, the food you cook, the songs you play, the people you have around,

the way you sit beside them in silence because silence says everything that needs to be said.

Losing Carlin taught me how to listen to love in a new way.

It's a lot softer, but there's still a strength to it.
