So I just watched the Guillermo del Toro film Nightmare Alley from 2021.

And first of all, it's a beautiful film to both look at and to enjoy as a dramatic narrative piece.

Wonderful performances from Bradley Cooper and Kate Planchette,

Willem Defoe, and Rooney Marra.

It follows a lowly carnival working drifter, Bradley Cooper, in 1940s New York as he rises to become

one of the most successful psychic mediums in the world. But they tell the story from the point of view of

the grifter. We see how it's all lies and how easily people fall for it in the hopes that, well, maybe it's real.

The climax of the film comes when Cooper's grift is exposed at the worst possible time

and he has to go on the run.
