Summary
The farmhouse had always come with rules. Keep the doors locked after dark. Don’t ignore the dogs when they start barking at the woods. And never open the front door at night unless you know exactly who’s standing outside.
For most of his childhood, Caleb treated those warnings like old family superstitions. Then one night in the late 1980s, someone knocked on the front door while his mother was upstairs.
When Caleb looked through the window, he immediately recognized the man standing silently on the porch beneath the light: his mother’s boyfriend, David.
But there was one problem. David was still at Fort Benning nearly two hours away.
And whatever Caleb saw standing outside the farmhouse that night… did not feel human.
