0:16.0	Well in 1969, Mr. Rogers of the TV show Mr. Rogers neighborhood fame, showed up here in Washington, D.C.
0:29.1	to express his disagreement with a proposal by President Nixon to cut funding for public broadcasting.
0:36.8	And Mr. Rogers testified before a Senate subcommittee and passionately but respectfully made his case for the need for this medium
0:46.4	to help children process their emotions.
0:50.3	And as he presents to this gruff and kind of resistant group of senators, you watch over time,
0:57.0	they slowly soften as Mr. Rogers begins to quote a poem about children.
1:04.0	And by the end of it, you feel,
1:06.2	you can watch the clip on YouTube,
1:07.8	you feel the mood in the room shift,
1:10.6	and you see him win over the leadership of the Senate to by the end the senator presiding over the hearing says
1:16.8	I'm supposed to be a tough guy but what you just did gave me goosebumps and then he said mr. Rogers
1:24.7	It looks like you just earned the 20 million and the people erupt in applause. It's a beautiful scene
1:30.3	You can watch it online and as you do you go it's so inspirational it's so
1:34.0	sweet it's so cool who wouldn't root for that guy who doesn't love Mr.
1:39.1	Rogers and I would submit to you in that moment there wasn't a single senator that at the end of that hearing turned to a henchman and said he's gotten too powerful.
1:50.0	He does tonight.
1:52.0	You know what?
1:54.0	No one would say that.
