BBC Sounds Music Radio Podcasts

I walked in the BBC's Milbank Studios today as I've done pretty much every week for

the past quarter of a century, but something happened today that has never happened to

me before. A woman, who I didn't know, who was hanging around in the lobby of the building

where not just the BBC, but ITN and Sky and many other broadcasters worked, shouted at

me, you're a Nazi, she said, you're a collaborator. Politics has got very angry, like nothing I've

ever seen before. This week on Political Thinking, we'll be talking about why and how it might

change my guest, the father of the house, who's been in the commons for 49 long years, Ken

Clark.

The Parliament exactly affects the public. Anger, extremism, intolerance of other people's

views, shouting abuse. The Parliament have better behaved than the people they represent, but

in the public arena, that's usual.

The question I found myself asking again and again is why is Boris Johnson talking in the

way he is? At one level it's obvious, it's a tactic.

The electorate of being held captive by this zombie parliament and this zombie opposition

and he wants the entire country to be held captive in the EU after October 31st at a

cost of more than a billion pounds a month. We say no.

His incredible Hulk show matches the anger, the rage that many people who voted for leave

three years ago do now feel a sense that whatever they do, whatever they say, however

they vote somehow the establishment in inverted commas will find a way to frustrate them.

We say no. I say no. Let's get Brexit done and let's take this country forward.
