Should Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu,

should his Defence Minister, you have gallant, go on trial for war crimes.

That is what my guest on political thinking this week is arguing.

He is the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court,

a British lawyer who's also trying to bring to the court the leader of Hamas

Yaya Sinwa. He's trying to bring them to a court that's been derided for having no real teeth.

Now on the 24th of May this year you stood in front of a camera and you announced that you would be applying

for arrest warrants at the International Criminal Court for crimes committed during the ongoing

conflict in Gaza.

Did you as you stood there think, my God,

there's going to be the mother of all rouse

after I sit down.

Well, I knew it was a powerful moment.

I knew it's very divisive issue, an issue where emotions are strong and there would be a storm. I'd been told by many states and authorities, it would be a nuclear bomb, it would be an atomic bomb, you know, that'd be held to pay effectively.

But as an office of the court you need to look at the law, look at the facts and apply the

law to the facts and that's what we did and why we submitted the applications to the judges.

Now the reason I imagine they thought it would be an atomic bomb is not just because it looked

like you're intervening in an ongoing conflict,

but also because of the seriousness.
