One and three Americans speaking of scams have fallen victim to an online shopping scam,

according to a new Pew Research Center survey.

Survey conducted in April underscores widespread concern about digital fraud.

85% of U.S. adults see scams on shopping sites and apps as a problem, with 50% calling it a major issue.

I actually ordered a piece of art off of an Instagram ad about four years ago, and I paid $175 for it to be custom made, and I have never heard back from it. Yeah. Did you go directly through their Instagram post? Yes, that's exactly what I did. Do not do that. Yep, apparently, now I know. How long ago was that? Five years. Basically, it was a guy who did topographical and geographical replications of golf courses in wood and then kind of painted them in.

Yeah, they literally carved this or laser edged. But the picture he showed me.

I'm like, wow, man, that's that super detail.

Not a bad price.

Never heard from the guy again.

I have no idea.

Nearly half adult surveyed said they had credit or debit information stolen, resulting in

fraudulent charges.

Some 36 reported buying an item online that was either counterfeit or never turned up.

Now, I will say this.

As far as the counterfeit things that I have bought in my lifetime, I've never truly regretted

the purchases because I knew at the time that it's counterfeit.

It was either counterfeit or it was stolen.
