have you ever heard that israel is the west's greatest strategic ally in the middle east well

we're going to talk about that and how it's blazingly untrue and we're going all the way back to

nineteen forty seven to do it welcome to colonial outcast your semi-friendly neighborhood anti-imperials

podcast and hot darn it we just pulled some top secret documents from the

depths of the national archives i mean declassified but still unseen from 1947 in which the joint

chiefs of staff advised then president harry truman that partitioning Palestine and recognizing the state of

Israel will screw u.s global interests over in the long run.

And we wanted to highlight these memos written by guys who your dad would probably credit with winning World War II in this episode.

Because aren't you all absolutely sick of hearing ancient gray-haired politicians gas on about how Israel is America's most important

strategic ally in the Middle East, about how Israel and without Israel, we would not be able to

safeguard our interests in that region, i.e. access to the vast oil reserves and the intersectional

strategic control of the lands connecting three continents. And, you know, if we don't exert imperial

control over these lands, the logic goes, then the Chinese and Russians will. And that would be bad

because of reasons. So look, if you're watching or listening to this podcast, you probably recognize

at the very least that the United States Empire

and the exercising of American Imperium abroad is bad for both the world and American citizens

themselves. And we're not going to really go down that rabbit hole because in a way this

episode is not for you. It's for your boomer uncle. Your boomer uncle who's been, you know, divorced three times,

has multiple DWIs, listens to Bruce Springsteen without comprehending the actual meaning of the lyrics,

gets misty-eyed when singing the national anthem at college football games, and still believes

in self-destructive American exceptionalism.
