Polio, as we know it, was once one of the most pervasive and threatening infectious viruses in North America.

It mainly targeted children, five and under, and it was debilitating.

On August 10th, 1921, at just 39 years old, while vacationing in Campobello Island,

Roosevelt began experiencing a fever, ascending paralysis, facial paralysis, bowel, and bladder
