Surrounding the Bay of Bengal, you'll find

India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, and Malaysia. Almost smack dab in the middle are the Andaman Islands.

Among the Andaman Islands are the Sentinel Islands. There's the North Sentinel Island and

South Sentinel Island. South Sentinel Island is uninhabited.

Sometimes diving excursions will use it as a resting point, but it's a very, very tiny island.

No bigger than about 1.6 square kilometers.

Which is so small.

Meanwhile, North Sentinel Island is a little bit bigger, 59.67 square kilometers. And unlike South

Sentinel Island, it is inhabited. Boy is it ever. But North Sentinel Island has what some

would call an untouched history, one that outsiders can only begin to speculate about.

The island is home to the sentinolese people, an indigenous group that lives in voluntary

isolation from the modern world. And not the kind of isolation that might first come to mind
