I've long known of his various superstitions and oddities.

Bare butt, naked poops, the fear of a tossed cigarette blowing up his car on the highways, the, that number, etc.

But now one of his superstitions has infiltrated my world, pole splitting.

My wife and I, who are already our roles, my constant ticket

references, are having a joyous and wonderful weekend in our favorite city, New Orleans, and walking

down to Luce Street. Another group comes up and we start to split one of the balcony poles,

and I grab her arm and pull her back around before it happened. An older black woman sees this and calls it out and applauds me.
