Hello and welcome to the Intel with Greg Kosell on Inside the Birds.

0:11.0

I'm Jeff Mosher with Adam Kaplan.

0:12.7

And of course, we have Greg Kosell, and we are starting to wind down this long series previewing NFL draft prospects.

0:21.1

We are down to the secondary.

0:22.5

We're going to go through cornerbacks, NFL draft prospect cornerbacks in this episode.

0:28.4

And I always love cornerbacks, Greg, because I love what happens in the draft.

0:33.2

Because after the first two or three go in the first round, it's kind of like, for those who play fantasy baseball,

0:39.3

closers, right? Everybody, oh, I got to get one.

0:42.8

It's the one position where I do feel like teams really,

0:46.3

it becomes a run once the first few go off the board.

0:50.3

You never have enough. That's the problem.

0:52.8

That's right.

0:53.2

Because the killer, too, for teams is if one of their top two or three, because obviously with the nickel gets hurt, then you have to go deep into your depth chart, man, that can really hurt your past defense because you know how coaches are. They will tell you that if they don't feel comfortable on the back end, that changes everything about the way they play. Right. So, you know, cool. You never, just like, there's certain positions you always hear, you know, you never have enough pass rushes. You never have enough corners. So those are the positions on defense you always hear about. It's a great point. There's really not any other position, right, Adam, where you have to play three in most of your offensive.

1:27.7

You're playing three guys at that position.

1:29.5

If Vic Fangio can allow us for this one episode to make Nichols and outside corners together

1:35.5

and just call them cornerbacks, most teams are starting 3, 70%.

1:40.1

There's no other position where you do wide receiver, but I would think that, you know,

1:44.6

in this league, you really need three really good, uh, corner. You can't, you can't seem a corner back

1:50.7

the way you can a wide receiver, right? You need three guys who could play on the outside. So the lines,

1:54.2

for example, they were playing a nickel is really not a corner outside because they ran out of players. And if you don't, Greg was alluding to this, if you don't have three corners, guys who play on the outside, you can't win. You can't. They have to be quality. And this is, you know, when we, I know we do a lot of Eagles talk, obviously, on inside the birds. When they knew that Ringo could not play in terms of getting on the field, he's a great special teams player, but there was no trust between the coaches, which I'm sure putting them out there, that leaves you in a bind. If you were depending on him, like, remember, he was supposed to compete, which he did, against Dori Jackson, that it was not only over, they wouldn't even

2:34.4

let him come in for Jackson. Right. That really limits you. Yeah. You don't want that. It's very,

2:39.6

very, very important position. Greg, let's start off with a guy out of LSU, which is a cornerback
