Summary

The Gabby Thomas Special is here!

Today's episode is my favorite episode we've ever recorded. Gabby's willingness to go deep on a plethora of subjects made this one next level. Gabby has accomplished so much in the sport, so to have the opportunity to have a long-form conversation with her was a privilege and an honor.

For those who aren't familiar with her:

Gabby is a 2xOlmypic Medalist (2021 Olympic Bronze medalist in the 200m & Silver medalist in the 4x100m Relay).

Gabby was the 2023 USATF Champion in the 200m and the 2021 US Olympic Trials Champion in 200m as well.

She most recently secured Silver at the 2023 World Championships in the 200m and Gold in the 4x100m relay.

Back in 2018, Gabby won the NCAA Indoor Championship in the 200m while representing Harvard. While at Harvard, Gabby studied neurobiology and global health as an undergraduate. She later got her Master's Degree in epidemiology from UT Austin.

Gabby holds PRs of 11.00 in the 100m, 21.69 in the 200m, 35.73 in the 300m, and 49.68 in the 400m.

Today's conversation was second to none. We cover so many things, from Gabby's journey in track to coffee to what it takes to be the best in track and field. We also discuss 2024, her being a part of the upcoming Netflix series on track, competing against Sha'Carri Richardson, and so much more!

It's my off day. Awesome. First question for it. We're just picking up where we left off before recording. We were talking about ice stuff. You're from Massachusetts or New Hampshire? Massachusetts. So this is like a breeze for you. think. You would think. So I was actually originally from Atlanta. I was born in Atlanta, Georgia, did elementary school there, and then moved up to Massachusetts. And that's when I, yeah, started that journey. So I did high school up there, stayed up there for college. And you really just don't get used to it. And so as soon as I graduated,

0:39.3

you know, from Harvard, I was like, I got to get back down south. Oh, even Harvard. Like,

0:42.8

Boston's horrible too, right? Yeah. Yeah. Because I remember like the distance runners. I know

0:47.9

Graham Blanks pretty well. He just won. Oh, yeah. Set a collegiate record as well. And like, I know, there you go. They like do this thing called the tempo loop, which is a 1,200 meter loop, which you would

0:59.1

know like the street name.

1:00.1

I don't know the street name because that's like the only path around Harvard that

1:03.5

gets plowed.

1:04.1

Yeah.

1:05.1

So you guys had like an indoor track.

1:06.6

So yeah, we were pretty much training indoors like all year.

1:09.4

Okay.

1:10.4

From basically what, like October

1:11.5

through May.

1:13.8

And so, yeah, just indoors all the time.

1:16.0

We barely got on the outdoor track.

1:17.8

And actually in my entire time at Harvard, I never did a meet on the outdoor track.

1:21.7

Oh, wow.

1:22.2

Yeah.

1:22.5

Wow.

1:22.8

So we were texting about scheduling the podcast.

1:26.1

And I think I sent a note to the extent of, like, it's going to be on Wednesday.
