You do get to a point where nothing surprises you anymore, and right when you get to that point, then suddenly something smacks you right in the face and you go, wow, I did not see that coming.

Because it is amazing what people can do, what people can believe. It's amazing how gullible they are, how creative they are, how

sinister they can be. This is Detective Lou Stecco, a 30-year veteran of the Albany Police Department,

tasked with investigating the break-in at Sarah's home. When I first met Sarah, I wouldn't say that

she seemed afraid for her life, but she seemed upset and she seemed

scared about this break-in. She had returned from the grocery store and found that her home had

been broken into and ransacked. Among Sarah's belongings now missing, her laptop, several

photographs, and a number of rare books, the latter of which seemed to trouble her

most of all. What Detective Stecco couldn't have known at the time was that the books

taken from Sarah's home on quantum mysticism, alternate dimensions, and Ong's Hat were all selections

were all selections from the Incunabula papers, through which the legend of Ong's hat was disseminated,

and with which Sarah had grown obsessed.

She didn't feel comfortable staying at home. I didn't blame her. She'd already set herself up at a nearby motel.

I gave her my business card, and I made it perfectly clear to her.

Don't tell anybody where you are.

Be careful how you use your electronic devices.

Don't do anything without calling me.

But I don't think we're to the point where she needs to be protected.

Nothing in her burglary led me to believe that she was in imminent danger.

The investigation yielded one lead, a black escalade.

The way we first found out about the escalade was that one of the neighbors had seen an SUV in Sarah's driveway for a short period of time, around the time that they heard glass break.
