Jonathan Pageau is a professional artist, public speaker, educator, and writer from Quebec, Canada. He carves Eastern Orthodox icons and designs other traditional images and products, and as the chief editor of the Orthodox Arts Journal, he has written extensively on religious symbolism. He recently started a publishing company, Symbolic World Press, which is set to publish a series of fairy tale books, the first of which is The Tale of Snow White and the Widow Queen. The Symbolic World website also hosts its own blog for contributors to write articles on symbolism, and a community forum to facilitate and cultivate discussion. Jonathan also hosts several online courses on icon carving, and more recently a Universal History course on Beowulf presented with Richard Rohlin. And in February 2024, the first Symbolic World Summit will take place in Florida.

On YouTube and The Symbolic World podcast, Jonathan explores how ancient symbolic patterns inform our experiences of the world and can re-enchant contemporary life.

0:42.4	How much do you think social media has to play in the last decade of weirdness?
0:48.0	Like I feel like in 2012 there were there was something like I was in university and you could kind of see some of the woke stuff coming into play,
0:58.0	but because there wasn't such a strong online social media following for these things?
1:03.6	They didn't blow up as fast.
1:05.5	Do you think that's why we're seeing such ups and downs
1:08.6	and like chaos and politics and things?
1:10.6	Because like everybody can suddenly get kind of a one certain idea and one way of
1:16.1	thinking and they're just spammed with that information.
1:18.7	That's right. I think that's the right way to see it is that you know in a normal in a normal let's say just 30 years ago or 20 years ago
1:26.8	you could watch the news and be funneled into a certain idea you know or you can even be
1:32.1	manipulated I mean it's not like propaganda is a new thing it's something into a certain idea, you know, or you can even be manipulated.
