Summary

One of biggest traps in anyone's healing journey is the idea that it's linear and rational. Yeah, you need tactics and plans, but if you go in thinking healing of ANY kind is like a recipe for cookies, you're not gonna have a good time. This is where the archetypal and symbolic power of myth comes in. Have a listen. This podcast is brought to you by Organifi! All right, team, quick little episode here. I want to talk about the cultural, psychological,

0:06.4

emotional and developmental importance of myth within our society, within our culture,

0:12.1

and just individually. So arguably the best way that I can describe it right at the gates

0:17.4

is by talking about the misconception of myths.

0:26.6

Oftentimes people look at a myth and they think, oh, that's a story about a fantasy.

0:35.3

That's a story about some fictional experience or that's a story about some quote-unquote religion in the past, right? Greek gods, et cetera. And that is the biggest

0:39.6

misconception about myths, period. The truth about myths is that they are an intrinsic or

0:47.7

reoccurring pattern that has always been with us, a kind of perennial pattern that has existed throughout history.

0:57.9

And myths represent a kind of larger truth that we sometimes struggle to put into words.

1:05.6

And so the wonderful thing about this is that they can hold story-based truths.

1:10.6

They can hold truths that are much larger

1:13.2

than you would normally just pack into one sentence. And you can try and distill it down

1:18.0

into a sentence or into a paragraph of like, well, this is the truth that that myth is trying

1:23.4

to represent. But it's not going to have the same kind of transformational or alchemical

1:29.0

weight as it would if you listen to the story. If you study the arc of what's happening in the

1:35.8

myth, if you study the archetypes and the symbols and the characters that are represented

1:41.0

within the myth, because the real substance and the substantial weight about myths and the reason why

1:48.4

they're so important within our culture is that they describe things within us as individuals,

1:54.9

within us socially and culturally as human beings that are not only incredibly important

2:00.3

to our survival, but they point to a kind

2:04.9

of wisdom that if we detach from that wisdom, we can get caught in very linear, hyper-rational

2:13.4

forms of being, thinking, operating, and relating in the world. And that way of being within
