This episode is inspired by a conversation I was having with a coworker.

Shout out to you, Sam.

Sam told me that the other day, he was caught up in the spiral of being busy and how taking

a moment to have a conversation with his Uber driver helped him to step out of that spiral

for a moment and remember his humanity.

This is a common pattern of creating so much busyness in our lives just to be busy that

we lose sight of the richness that is our lives.

Oftentimes we add things in our to-do list so that we seem important or productive.

I even found out this illusion has a name, performative busyness, where our busyness is quite

literally a performance.

We show up late to meetings because we're wrapping up another meeting.

We never take vacation days because we're hard workers and we react to every situation

like it's an emergency, always putting out fires that could have been avoided.

And I know there's a lot of things at play here.

In our world, hustle culture is rewarded.

It's almost strange if you aren't productive, but at what expense?

This performative busyness means we miss out on life because we're so consumed by our

busyness that we can't create space for new experiences.

In a fashion time, I spent a lot of 2022 caught up in this illusion of being busy.
