I am blessed to be with a group of Kansas City young Catholic professionals.

It is awesome to pray the Rosary with them. So let's begin in the name of the

Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit and let's call to mind all those we've promised to pray for. We are immersing ourselves in the life of Jesus

as we prepare through Advent for Christmas but also to consecrate ourselves to our lady on January 1st.

Today we take a very sad character from the Gospels, King Herod.

Once there was a king named Herod,

and he was more defective in more ways than perhaps any human being in

scripture. He killed John the Baptist, he took his brother's wife, he mocked the creator of the universe in the person of Jesus Christ, he was a drunken lustful, stupid oath. It's good to meditate on someone like Herod because when we look at

his failings we may notice some similarity to our own culture and maybe even to ourselves.

And then we can hurry to try to fix it before Advent comes to a close and ultimately before we become locked in the eternal human failure that is the state of hell.
