Welcome to another episode of The Homestretch w/Adrian Durant, where we meet and have conversations with some of the most inspiring and elite athletes, coaches and sports personalities. Today we have with us on the show Leevan Sands, a four-time Olympian and Olympic Bronze medalist. Sands had a remarkable sporting career where he competed in four Olympic Games in a row from 2004 to 2016, winning the bronze in the triple jump at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and took fifth place in the 2012 London Olympics. He is also a six-time World Championship finalist, winning bronze at the 2003 World Championships in Paris, France and won silver at the 2015 Pan American games in the triple jump.
In this interview with Leevan Sands, we will talk about his journey of becoming a World class athlete. Sands tells about how his sporting career started at a very young age and how he went on to become one of the best track and field athletes from the Bahamas and a 13 time national champion. We talk about his time at Auburn University where he won the NCAA long jump in 2003 and triple jump title in 2004. While competing as a world class athlete he started mentoring and coaching younger athletes which is what he is doing full time now. Leevan shares his experience so far as a Northern Colorado track and field coach where he coaches young athletes to become World class athletes.
