Now more than ever, Christians need to know what they believe and why.

In an age of rampant deconversion and de-churching, it's crucial that God's people pursue

both greater holiness of character and deepening theological convictions.

And one of the best tools for this, a tool that has stood the test of time,

is the catechism. In my conversation today, I'm speaking with Colin Hansen about the New City

Catechism. The New City Catechism was first developed by Tim Keller for his church in New York

City, but has since been used by thousands of Christians and churches around the world.

In our conversation, Colin shares some insights into Keller's vision for the catechism before his

death in 2023, why it's been so well received and what it might look like for individuals,

families, and churches to use this resource to go deeper with the Lord in an increasingly secular

world. Colin serves as vice president for content, an editor-in-chief for the Gospel Coalition,

and he's the executive director of the Keller Center for Cultural Apologetics. He's also the

editor for the New City Catechism Devotional from Crossway. Let's get started.

Well, Colin, thanks so much for joining me again on the Crossway podcast. Oh, it's always a

privilege to be here. Thanks, Matt. So, Colin, since we first published the New City Catechism,

way back in 2017, I was just looking at the numbers recently.

We've sold over half a million copies of the Catechism in its various forms. And nearly half of

those being the small kids edition that was specially designed for children to hold in their own

hands and read themselves. So I wonder just big picture.

Are you surprised by the way that the New City Catechism has really taken root,

certainly in the American Church, certain quarters of American evangelicalism, but even around the world?

I'm definitely surprised.
