Today on the Grave Talks part two of our conversation about the historic and

haunted Eldridge Hotel.

In the 1850s Kansas was a territory and the battle was raging between the

pro slavery and the anti-slavery factions. In 1855 the free state hotel was

built in Lawrence, Kansas. There was no doubt about what the hotel represented

and it was burned down the day of its grand opening. It was rebuilt by Colonel

Schaeler Eldridge. The Eldridge Hotel now stands on that site and in room 506

the cornerstone from the original free state hotel is embedded in the wall. It
