Summary

In 2022 during an origin trip to Honduras, I learned that connecting with others can happen no matter how many words are said. I was disconnected from everything I’d ever known, yet was brought back from a dark place by just a tap on the shoulder. This is a special short story by Wiser, he’s been the first guest at every one of our cafes and our Marketing Team Lead. If you want to find out more about Angel, his coffee, or the best friends club, be sure to head to our website https://www.catandcloud.com

Hey everyone, Weiser here. We just had a coffee launch recently, and one of the coffees we launched

0:07.8

was from the producer Anhele Antonio Rivera from Honduras. In 2022, we got to visit with him, and it just so happens that on this trip, I had one of the most lonely experiences of my life.

0:23.3

See, this was my first trip outside of the United States, and I have this rational fear of being stranded wherever I travel.

0:31.2

So you might imagine how I felt when I found myself 4,000 miles away from the only home I'd ever known on the

0:38.4

side of a mountain, out of breath, in a country where I didn't speak the language, watching

daylight slowly fade away.

At this point in the trip, we were meeting up with Enel and Pedro Garcia, two coffee producers who are part of the Best Friends Club.

For this particular visit, we made a choice to hike straight to the farm as opposed to driving the long way around.

1:05.1

The only issue with this choice being that the trail was virtually straight up and it was less of a path and more of a

1:11.9

hillside covered in crushed vegetation. We started out at a pretty quick pace, traveling up the

1:17.8

mountain with two people who hike at multiple times a day, and oftentimes carrying sacks of

1:23.3

harvest at coffee cherries with them.

1:31.3

I was at the back of the group doing my best to keep up.

1:36.8

I'm not out of shape, but I wasn't in the shape needed for this pace, and it didn't help that I had to keep one hand in the air, so the camera I was carrying stayed safe.

1:42.3

Also, I'm a timid person.

1:46.6

I typically won't say anything if I'm uncomfortable.

1:52.9

I'll likely just grin and bear it until something breaks. If Anhell wasn't there behind me,

1:57.3

I'd likely have fallen and slid down the mountain, all in the name of humility.

2:05.3

So we decided that Pedro, Jared, and Charles would hike ahead and Anhill would stick with me.

2:06.2

He quickly whipped up a hiking stick on the fly and then patiently went with me showing me where

2:11.3

I could grab and flattening the brush that might be hard to get over.

2:15.2

I would stop and take a breath every few meters and would be
