Darren Hardy. Half the year, particularly in the summer, I live here in San Diego in a seaside town called

Cardiff by the Sea. And just up the road here is Rancho Santa Fe. And out there in their big

pastures, they launch these enormous hot air balloons. And in the evenings, when the weather is just

right, you'll see them drifting above the ridge lines. When the sun is dropping low, the whole sky

goes golden orange, and there they are these giant bulbs of color, just hovering above the earth,

just hanging in the air, like something out of a dream. So I've watched them enough times to know

the sequence. First, you see the crew unrolling

this giant fabric, the enormous swath of color spread out like over the grass, like a house-sized

blanket. And then the blast of the flame, and it roars. This enormous sound, the propane flame

shoots up 15 feet in the air, and you can feel the heat hit your face from 50 yards away.

And then the fabric starts to twitch and then it shudders and then it slowly and possibly starts to rise.

And it grows taller than a three-story building.
