Summary
This is a Grave Talks CLASSIC EPISODE! PART TWO
Step inside The Bell Mansion, one of Fort Wayne, Indiana’s most historic — and most haunted — landmarks.
Built in 1893 by state senator and attorney Robert Bell and his wife Clara, the Romanesque-style mansion was once a symbol of culture and prosperity. Clara co-founded the Fort Wayne Museum of Art, and the Bells were pillars of the community.
But after the family sold the home to William K. Nobel, its story took a chilling turn. For 93 years, the house served as the Klaehn Funeral Home, where it’s believed 300,000 to 500,000 bodies passed through its doors. Many say countless spirits linger there to this day — and some believe Robert and Clara Bell never left.
Now a popular haunted venue, the mansion has become a hub for paranormal investigators and history buffs alike. In this episode of The Grave Talks, we sit down with event coordinator Lindsay Crouch to hear firsthand accounts of the building’s ghostly residents, unexplained voices, and the residual energy of decades of mourning.
Is the Bell Mansion haunted by its funeral home past, or are the Bells themselves still keeping watch?

| 0:15.9 | But there's an estimated of 300 to 600,000 bodies that had been in and out of that place. So it's been a high |
| 0:23.0 | traffic facility for a long time. So yeah, when you go in that embalming room and you really sit |
| 0:28.3 | and think about that, all of the people that had been in and out of that room, it's, |
| 0:35.1 | it is a little unsettling. And it's, it's, it's just kind of leaves you with a weird |
| 0:38.6 | feeling. Nothing, you know, negative, but it's just kind of, you tackle your own mortality when |
| 0:44.2 | you think about things like that. 300 to 600,000. But you know, you do consider it was close to 100 |
| 0:53.1 | years that it was in operation. That's, you know, you do consider it was close to 100 years that it was in operation. |
| 0:57.5 | That just kind of blew me away. |
| 1:00.9 | Because, yeah, it's kind of a little bit of an overload, you know. |
| 1:05.1 | And then there was another event. |
| 1:07.4 | In 1982, Fort Wayne suffered a really horrible flood flood and there was a lot of damage in the |
| 1:14.3 | downtown area and a lot of death unfortunately and there were so many bodies coming into the funeral home |
| 1:22.5 | that they were actually shoving the bodies in through a basement window and just stacking them |
| 1:28.2 | wherever they could put them because they were so backed up. |
| 1:33.6 | So that kind of leaves a little bit of a residual footprint too to think about when you're |
| 1:37.3 | down in the basement. |
| 1:38.8 | It kind of makes me think, you know, funeral homes are one of those places that, you know, |
| 1:44.0 | I've heard of my sister had a |
| 1:45.8 | funeral home, an old building built in the 1800s, and it was built as a funeral home. |
