Summary

This week's podcast is up early, as we're coming to you from the inaugural Couples Championship in Tampa, Florida (happening Sunday, March 6, 2022), where 14 professional triathlete couples are facing off in a unique distance event, with a prize purse of $100,000.  The event was dreamed up by Ben Atkins, who wanted to find a way to support professional triathletes in a line of work where it's incredibly hard to make a living.  On the podcast we talk to Ben, as well as triathlon couple Justin and Jeanni Metzler, about why it's so hard to make a living and what needs to change in the industry.

What's up Motivators, Taryn here. Today we are back to your regularly scheduled interviews.

And guess what? We are at a race for the first time in over two and a half years.

NTC and I have gone down to the couple's championship in Florida, where Waterfall Bank has put on,

I think it's a really, really cool format where couples from all over the world are facing off against each other in a shorter than sprint distance race where one individual from the couples completes a complete race of swim bike run and then tags off to the other and the other has to do full swim bike run.

Race is a little bit shorter than a sprint and it's not set who

goes first, the male or the female. So it's going to end up being a really interesting race.

I think that this is the direction that the industry is going where we have to make races more

0:52.4

enjoyable, more entertaining than having 12 to 15 people

0:56.8

show up and more or less you know how the podium is going to shake out before the race even goes.

1:02.8

Leads to a lot of questions, leads to a lot of uncertainty, leads to a lot of fun dynamics.

And yeah, I can't think of a better place to come back and start traveling again and

1:12.9

get back down into the U.S. and see a race for the first time in a couple of years. So this is

1:17.9

really exciting to see that racing is coming back in such an exciting way. We have to thank our

1:23.5

sponsors. The first one is Athletic Greens. And this is literally a product that I use every

single day. I use this because it's a better version of a multivitamin. It features 75 vitamins,

1:35.6

minerals, nutrients, all from whole food-based sources. And it's a greens powder so you can mix

1:41.1

it in a shake in a chia seed pudding like I have or just take it on its own.

1:47.5

And the people that have actually tagged me in their first time trying it on Instagram,

1:52.3

they are all surprised at how good it tastes.

1:55.5

So this is what I use every single day to make sure that even if I'm eating well,

1:59.9

I'm getting all of the nutrients

2:01.7

that I need as a baseline. And as endurance athletes, we are very challenged to get that in. So to make
