The video is hard for me to watch.

It's a miracle we even have it after the damage to the containment facility.

Thank God for the tech guys, who managed to get it off a recovered hard drive.

After all, Foundation surveillance footage is not the kind you want stored in the cloud.

On it, I watch as Dr. Regard walks up to security officer Caldera like it's just another normal day.

But as the doctor gets up to Caldera, he elbows the security guard in the throat, takes his gun, and puts a bullet in his head.

Even though there's no sound accompanying the footage, I wince at the gunshot.

Caldera was a friend of mine. He was a good

security officer, and Dr. Regard knew exactly what he was doing. His movements are fluid on the

tape. I can just picture him practicing it again and again, getting ready for the real thing.

Would I have been able to see it coming? I ask myself.

I like to think so, but some part of me says no.

What would have made Caldera aware of his impending death?

He worked with regard for nearly two years.

They were colleagues.

Hell, it'd been to each other's houses.

I look up from my tablet, glancing around at the other members of my team as they sit

in the dark interior of the military transport plane.
