Summary

Do you find fitness and keeping your body healthy fun? Twins Dave and Steve Flynn – perhaps better known as The Happy Pear – love keeping fit in a way that feels like play. They listen to their bodies; they move intuitively. Sometimes that means handstands, sometimes it means yoga, and a lot of the time it means a cold morning swim in the Irish Sea.

In this chat with Fearne, Dave and Steve explain why they feel community is the antithesis of loneliness, as all human beings ultimately have the same needs: to be accepted, seen, and loved. Plus, as fellow vegans, the three discuss getting more vegetables into your diet when you’re time poor.

The Happy Pear’s latest book, The Veg Box, is available to pre-order now.

You can be in a marriage and feel lonely, you can be around crowds and feel lonely. Loneliness

0:20.4

isn't about the absence of people, it's the sense of belonging and I think the more and

0:24.2

more we can create an environment where we're seen and we're seen for who we are with

0:29.7

our problems with our faults and we're allowed to display our vulnerability, it just gives

0:34.3

that sense that ability for us to connect. I spoke to Dave and Steve at the end of last year,

remotely over in Ireland. If you're following them on Instagram you'll know that because

old boy do they like their morning swims in the freezing Irish sea. I'll let them tell you how

that all came about. It's a really brilliant story. The Happy pair began way back in 2004 as a tiny

shop that had big dreams of helping people eat more vegetables. Now the Happy pair consists

of over 40 products, a load of online courses, whole food retail cafes and shops, a range of

1:10.1

cookbooks, a farm, a roastery and really crucially a thriving community of people encouraging each

other to live healthy lives. This episode is brought to you by Samsung Galaxy Bud 2 Pro.

I've been out walking listening to lots of music recently. I've been listening to lots of

1:30.2

the Beatles, a firm favourite always, lots of Ludovico in Audi because that just keeps me very calm

1:37.5

and gives me really good headspace when I don't want to listen to lyrics or words just hearing

1:42.4

Ludovico. Tinkle on the old Iveries is the dream and if you're as obsessed with beautiful music

1:48.4

and melodies as I am you'll understand that I have to listen with earbuds that guarantee a

1:53.5

gorgeously crisp listening experience. I want unmistakable clarity and that's exactly what the

2:00.3

Galaxy Buds 2 Pro provide. I obviously love listening to music but I also have to have earbuds
