On September 18, 2006, a woman's body was found in a Denver suburb trailed by a mile

of blood. A woman who came to the U.S. to achieve her dreams and create a better life for her and

her family. So if you like your coffee hot but your bones chilled, sit back and start your day

with a morning cup of murder.

Luce Maria Franco Fierros was a well-known member of her community in Cholpensingo, Mexico.

Elected president of her neighborhood in the 1990s, Luce led the fight for water, electricity,

and paved streets, as well as raised money to help build a small community chapel.

She was beloved, and though she loved her community, she had dreams of bringing that American

dream back to her family. She wanted to build a bigger, nicer, and safer

home for her children, as well as open up her own Pazole Ria, a shop that serves Mexican soup.

So, she did what she thought she needed to do to make that happen. Without telling her children,

Luce told the trusted members of her town that she was

leaving for the United States and that she wanted them to take care of her kids in the meantime.

In a close-knit community, that's more like family than neighbors, they agreed and wished her

luck and good travels, knowing that, as soon as she made enough money to achieve what she dreamt of,

she would be coming back home. She told them that she would see them around Christmas time and was on her way.
