Hi Edy and Nick.

I saw Nick's recent post about being on a cruise ship. I actually worked on one back in the 2010s

But it wouldn't be for a week or two like Nick. I worked long contracts

Nine months at a time type of contracts.

I'd finish one contract, go home for maybe a week, and then join another ship.

I look back at those times as grateful memories,

but in the moment it was just work.

Working on a ship is an endless amount of strict procedures,

pretty much happening every day.

Most of these procedures become habit,

and you forget that you're even done them.

If it wasn't for all the paperwork that

also constantly needed to be filled out, it would be easy to forget if a task was done.

Nick knows that the crew is made up of people from all over the world.

For many of the crew members, working on a ship is the only income for their entire family

back in their respective country.

The last thing most of the crew want is to cause any alarm and be terminated. Walking down the hallway

on any day you could hear so many different languages. We all have our passing jokes, lots of

courtesy laughs, but I liked more than anything were scary stories.

And the crew were quite the superstitious folk.

I heard plenty of stories from all over the world, but I want to share one that happened on one of the ships I worked on.
